Renovation of the surgical department of Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 8

The large-scale war has caused significant damage to Ukraine’s healthcare system. Damaged or destroyed hospitals have increased the workload for the medical facilities still in operation, forcing staff to work under tough conditions and to prioritize care for patients. This is especially true for surgical departments, which are under heavy demand in these times of war.

Kyiv City Hospital No. 8, the largest hospital in the capital, is facing these challenges. Its surgical department, which was outdated, required renovation to ensure safe patient care and high-quality services in accordance with modern medical standards.

Our foundation has undertaken the modernization and renovation of the surgical department at Hospital No. 8 in cooperation with its administration. This department plays a crucial role for residents of the capital and its surrounding region, where the number of surgical operations has increased due to shelling and frontline fighting.

For the renovation of the surgical department, Solidarity provided:

• the materials necessary to bring the water supply, wastewater disposal, heating, and electrical systems up to standard;
• sanitary equipment to ensure hygiene, safety, and comfort for patients and medical staff;
• equipment necessary to ensure accessibility for people with reduced mobility;
• interior decoration elements to promote the well-being of all users.

This autumn, the surgical department of Hospital No. 8 reopened its doors to patients. In the renovated facilities, 43 people can receive care simultaneously, and the modern equipment, along with thoughtfully arranged spaces, ensures comfortable and safe conditions for medical treatments. The department is now accessible to everyone in need of surgical care, with spaces that guarantee privacy, safety, and attentive care.

For us, this project is not just a renovation of buildings — it represents a concrete investment in healthcare and in improving treatment conditions at a major medical facility in the capital.

The project demonstrates that collaboration between businesses, administration, and charitable organizations can bring about tangible changes, making a real impact on people’s daily lives and enhancing the quality of medical care.

At the initiative of the Solidarity Foundation, volunteer teams actively participated in the finishing work alongside the hospital’s medical staff and employees of Leroy Merlin Ukraine.
